Daily Scripture Reading: Acts 18:1-28
Mundane
Whether Acts 18 is mundane or not can be up for interpretation. Sometimes we come to a Bible passage and you just wonder what it is getting at. Paul is in transition. He is on the move and his movements is articulated. He makes it to Corinth. He faces opposition. Maybe he is going to start focusing more on Gentiles than Jews. The biggest takeaway is that Paul is listening for where God’s will is going to take him.
Sometimes our own lives feel mundane. Sometimes we feel stuck in transition. I believe the key themes of this passage could or should be key themes for our lives. They are…
God’s Guidance: God is constantly guiding His people, even when they don't know where they are going. Paul originally planned to go to Ephesus, but God led him to Corinth instead. And even though Paul was eventually driven out of Corinth, God used his ministry there to plant a thriving church.
The importance of teamwork: Paul’s ministry was not a solo effort. He worked closely with Silas, Timothy, Aquila, and Priscilla. The all played important roles in spreading the gospel. This reminds us that we are stronger together, and that God uses us as a team to accomplish His purposes.
The power of the gospel: The gospel is the good news that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead so that we can have eternal life. Paul’s ministry in Corinth and Ephesus shows that the gospel is powerful to change lives, regardless of a person’s background or social status.
As we read Acts 18, we can be encourage by God’s faithfulness to His people. He is always guiding us, even when we don’t know where we are going. And He uses us as a team to accomplish His purposes. We can also be inspired by the power of the gospel to change lives.
